In todayâ??s medical world they have developed software that contains a medical history of
their patients that they have treated and dispensed medications to, lab work completed, or
surgeries performed, etc. I have been in the U.S. Army for quite some time and all I know is how
the Army maintains the patients and my health records. For a while, it used to be hand-carried
hard copy and it was a messy situation until they updated their process to become digital. All I
can speak for is the advantages at Butts Army Airfield Medical Clinic. The advantages are that
no matter where I PCS too or travel for a school or attend a conference, and I have to be seen at
an Army clinic or hospital my previous record is in their system. I would only have to answer
certain standard questions for my treatment as they can see my history to understand my chronic
pain. They also can print out my whole medical history if I so choose to ask, but the one major
thing is that all my specialty treatment results are in the system so the new provider I speak to
can learn about my history and for their own personal knowledge.
The downside is that if it is not transferable to hospitals or clinics when I retire, as I
would have to ask for a hard copy because letâ??s face it the wait times at the VA hospitals are
ridiculous. Plus, an inexperience doctor or medic who doesnâ??t know how to use the system
could potentially not put information in my file that could potentially be a key to my treatment.
Also, there have been four times where my health information was potentially stolen as I
received an email from the Army stating this.
There are many advantages and disadvantages to this and some that I probably didnâ??t
mention but will learn later as I remember what it was. Also, technology is always changing and
who knows they may make a software that will link to the civilian side once you retire or just
universal in general. Only time will prove this to be true of false and it is up our medical
personnel to adapt to the systems as they are introduced.

Good morning class,
I know we live in the digital age so everything is performed electronically
however, this concept has its advantages and disadvantages. A few of the
advantages of providing electronic medical records are that itâ??s convenient for both
the provider and the patient. Another, advantage of having electronic medical
records are that it provides up-to-date information about the patient. Finally, it
ensures safe practice and less medical errors when diagnosing patients and
prescribing medications.
A few of the disadvantages of having electronic medical records are that it can
be expensive for the hospital or clinic to provide the equipment for the electronic
medical records. Another, disadvantage of using electronic medical records is
unfamiliarity; not all patients are familiar with how to use the latest technology
especially elderly patients. However, the biggest problem with electronic medical
records is that if you donâ??t have reliable internet or your soft freezes then you wonâ??t
be able to access them which can cause a delay in patient care.
